Students come to Georgetown McDonough School of Business because they want to apply business practices and skills to make a profit and solve the world’s most pressing problems.
Beyond the Certificate in Sustainable Business and other academic coursework, Business for Impact students emerge from their Georgetown tenure having transformative experiences through practical hands-on and integrative learning opportunities.
Every academic year, students apply to and are chosen to work on the Rural Opportunity Initiative team under the guidance of ROI Director, Matt McKenna. These select students work to realize the mission of ROI: to serve rural American communities by driving financially and socially-sustainable rural development.
ROI Students understand the complex social, economic, and environmental challenges of the 21st century. They conduct groundbreaking research and analysis on investments in rural America and engage in partnership building between anchor institutions, national investors, and lenders with local ecosystems, including businesses, economic development directors, and local government leaders.
